This photograph captures the view of Suwano-machi looking southeast. Koeizan Choshoji Temple (Nichiren Sect, 18 Tera-machi, Nagasaki City) is visible at the top of the stone stairs. Mt. Kazagashira is in the background. The street is flanked by stone side ditches, and there is a water outlet on the right. A oil lamp is standing beyond it. Hamanomachi street

Abura-machi is viewed from the intersection in Higashihamano-machi (present day Hamanomachi street). The water conduit in the foreground is now underground but flooded over in the great flood of 1982. The building on the corner to the right (site of a modern-day McDonald's outlet) retains the atmosphere of the Meiji Period with its sliding paper doors and wooden walls. Drinking water was supplied from Hongochi Dam to the public well in the foreground.
